JetSet Hotels: Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, British Columbia Canada

Clayoquot Wilderness Resort, off British Columbia’s beaten wilderness path, redefines the “glam-ping” experience.  This ultra-luxurious eco-destination has some of the most breathtakingly beautiful wilderness frontier left on the planet.  Inspired by late 19th century Great Camps, the Wilderness Outpost at Bedwell River is where childhood wishes and grown-up dreams come true. Located near the village of Tofino, Vancouver Island, Canada, you can take a 45 minute private seaplane transfer from Vancouver, BC., or a 30 minute boat ride from Tofino.

This special property is located in the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve Area, in one of the best intact examples of temperate rain forest left on Earth. The resort employs local men and women, and, through various education-based naturalist and recreational offerings, contributes to the enhancement and global understanding of the Reserve.

An enclave of 20 great white canvas guest “tents” are furnished with plush bedding, wood stoves, and antique rugs, with a romantic pioneer vibe.  Bear- and whale– watching are among the must-dos here, along with relaxing in one of the secluded hot tubs, wood-fired saunas or massage tents. No tin-can campfire beans here! Cuisine is coastal fresh and locally sourced.  A massive timber cookhouse offers a delicious paradox of indulgent luxury and remote, untamed wilderness.  National Geographic Traveler magazine calls the resort “rusticating luxury”. Open annually from mid May until the end of September and offering 3, 4 and 7 night all inclusive adventures, Clayoquot is perfect for the entire family.

They have launched special programs in 2013 and whether you are a beginner or ready to go pro, you can sharpen your skills kayaking, surfing, or fly fishing.  People travel from all over the world to catch trophy fish here.  My personal favorite is the first annual Wine and Culinary Weekend, June 6-9, 2013.  Whether you want to spend your days as an active adventurer or relaxing in the environment with a bottle of fabulous British Colombian wines, there is something for everyone around this sexy camp ground!

JetSet Hotels: Singita Sabora Tented Camp, Tanzania Africa

The intrepid traveler is always talking about traveling “off the beaten path”, however, at Singita Sabora Tented Camp in East Africa, that is exactly the opposite of where we want to be. Situated on the migratory route where more than one million wildebeests traverse annually, you are surrounded by 350,000 acres of land being pounced on by cheetahs, trodden by elephants, tip-toed by leopards, trampled by lions, and danced on by giraffes. This beaten path offers you a marvel of wildlife right outside your 1920’s inspired tent that is fully equipped with all of the luxuries you could possibly desire with service that is unsurpassed.

Singita Sabora is located in northwest Tanzania, near the Kenyan border, forming part of the Serengeti ecosystem. Its global position allows for a temperate climate for year-round visits, with December to March prevailing as idyllic months. This 9 one bedroom en suite tented property offers day game drives, safari walks, and heart racing night game drives spot lit by your professional guides. Explore the Serengeti by mountain bike or play tennis on property, and allow yourself to be lured into the pool for a cool down. This all-inclusive experience serves exquisite food where even the self-proclaimed “foodie” is impressed. Each day here will leave you wondering how the next could possibly rival that before.

JetSet Hotels: Amanwana, Moyo Island Indonesia

The name Amanwana, meaning “peaceful forest”, is somewhat misleading.  While Moyo Island, one of 18,000 islands in Indonesia, is known for its pristine tropical forest, cascading limestone waterfalls, and Komodo Dragons, its azure sea is most alluring to me.

Centered in the middle of the “Coral Triangle” of diversity that extends from Australia to the Philippines, Indonesia has more marine diversity (and density of life) than anywhere on earth.  While Bali may be the more popular sibling, Moyo offers a secluded luxury tented escape for those more adventurous at heart.

The journey begins with a short floatplane transfer from Bali past Lombok and above Mt. Rinjani before arriving at the private Amanwana jetty.  Wander a few steps down a sandy path and you’ll arrive at your spacious beachfront suite.  With only 20 tents at Amanwana, and approximately 3,000 residents on Moyo Island, this seaside sanctuary is reserved for a select few.

Its situation 8 degrees south of the equator makes the destination comfortable year round.  Days can be spent lazing on a secluded island nearby or submerged beneath the surface, while evening entertainment includes cinema under the stars or a barefoot beach BBQ.  There is no shortage of “Aman Magic” on Moyo!
