Mark Twain once wrote “Mauritius was made first and then heaven, heaven being copied after Mauritius.” And was he ever right!
Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean off the African continent. It is known for its beaches, wildlife, and world-renowned cuisine. Beyond its stunning beaches, turquoise lagoons, and abundant reefs, Mauritius is home to lush green mountains, cascading waterfalls, and the Black River Gorges Park. Aside from the enticing vistas and diverse terrain, there is truly something for everyone on this unique island!
Families and couples alike can relax on the beach alongside crystal clear blue-green water or indulge in the faster-paced activities the island has to offer. Highlights on the water include kite surfing, boat excursions to surrounding islands, scuba diving, snorkeling along the reefs, paddle boarding, waterskiing and more. By land enjoy playing golf, hiking to the mountain peak or through the gorge, and horseback riding.
Mauritius is a mecca for world-class luxury hotels with exceptional service. On the southwestern side of the island on Le Morne Beach resides the St. Regis, which exceeds every expectation. From the spa to the five star restaurants serving locally caught fresh fish cooked in front of you, this property ensures an experience you won’t soon forget!
Dr. Seuss, that wise old sage, said it best: “The more that you read, the more things that you’ll know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
At Jet Set World Travel, learning is the cornerstone of our ethos. We are committed to intimately learning about you, personally experiencing a destination, and actively sharing our findings with one another. Our collective intelligence is something we invest in, and it’s why people invest in us.
Since the ‘Jet Set Girls’ live and work around the world, we gather together annually to educate – and to learn from – one another. This year we escaped January’s wintry mix to experience southern California and enjoyed world-class accommodation at Rancho Valencia (recently voted #1 Hotel in the U.S. by U.S. News) and their robust fitness offering, replete with cardio tennis instruction from two-time US Open Champion Robin White! We also learned “hands on” about Omni’s venture into leisure at the newly acquired La Costa Resort & Spa before toasting the weekend – and new year – from the 32nd floor of our Omni Suite overlooking all of downtown San Diego.
One of my happiest hours was discovering I do indeed like Pale Ale, just with lighter hops, during our private tour and tasting at Ballast Point. But in the end, the most poignant lesson is gratitude. I am blessed for the incredible women I work with and the extraordinary friendships we share around the world.
Until we reconvene in Jamaica in 2016, we’ll keep on practicing (and sampling) what we preach!

Tucked away in the northernmost part of Sultanate of Oman lies a magical place waiting to be discovered. Six Senses Zighy Bay is set against a breathtaking backdrop of rugged mountains on a mile long crescent of powdery white sand bordering the Arabian Sea.
Oman is one of the Middle East’s most flourishing countries and has become increasingly popular with travelers that are looking for beautiful beaches and spectacular scenery. Zighy Bay is just that and more. The upscale yet rustic “barefoot luxury” resort offers guests peace and tranquility within a setting of beautiful indigenous village-style accommodations. Although located in Oman, Zighy Bay is located on the Musandam Peninsula, which is separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. The nearest airport is actually Dubai (two hour drive), not Muscat.
One of the most unique facts about Zighy Bay is that there are three arrival options for guests. In addition to the scenic drive from the top of the mountain overlooking the bay and resort, guests can arrive in style via speedboat from nearby Dibba marina or for the more adventurous – you can paraglide in with the resident professional!
Most guests seek out Zighy Bay looking for peace and tranquility but the resort offers a wide selection of daily activities including Arabian cooking lessons, yoga, diving, snorkeling, rock-climbing and of course out of this world spa treatments.
Whether you are after a remote destination experience, a beach holiday or looking for something unique to tie into a more extensive vacation, Zighy Bay is worth the effort to reach and is truly an impressive property. Contact Michelle Pragnell to learn more.
