“The Travel + Leisure Travel Advisory Board is composed of a select group of owner-operators who run what we consider to be the best agencies in North America. Julia Douglas of JETSET sits on T+L’s board and I consider it a great privilege to know and consult with her and members of her team. JETSET is an agency that stands out to me for a thoroughly modern approach to travel: a true understanding that what satisfies us most today is immersive experiences that capture the joy of travel and the essence of place but also leave us feeling personally enriched.”

“JetSet has an amazing collection of consultants who ‘live’ to travel and have incredible destination and product knowledge. What always amazes me is their commitment to learning and the joy they get from traveling to destinations, but even more so, learning the nuances and then creating in-depth meaningful trips and experiences for their clients. WENDY PERRIN’S

WOW LIST

March 2018

Jill
“Jill planned an extraordinary trip for our family that more than exceeded our expectations. Every detail was taken care of from our transportation to our guided tours. Excellent attention to detail was paid when booking our hotels. Every part of our trip was perfectly customized to meet the needs of our family of five and there were no surprises along the way. Our entire trip itinerary was sent to us in both a PDF and an app that we all had on our phones making it accessible at all times. Best idea ever...” Read more

Specialization:
Africa, Italy, multi-country Europe, oenophile (wine) travel, soft adventure.

Never Travel Without:
An open mind, backpack with my SLR camera, a water bottle, and a few too many scarfs.

Top Travel Memory:
Experiencing a walking safari in Zambia with no internet, no cellphones, and just being in the moment. While on foot, a pack of 21 wild dogs came running by us--chasing an impala--and made a kill within 50 yards. I pushed myself outside of my comfort zone and it was exhilarating!

Best Foodie Find:
An "agricucina" in Cortina, Italy, which featured local ingredients, including meats and cheeses from their farm, wild herbs from the surrounding alpine meadows, and fresh produce from their own kitchen garden. All paired with incredible 360-views of the Italian Alps. SanBrite's talented chef Riccardo Gaspari (winner of several culinary awards) wanted to create something entirely new after having put his family’s agriturismo (mountain farm and restaurant) El Brite, on the culinary map.

On My Bucket List:
Sardinia, Faroe Islands, Western Australia, and the Himalayas.

“COVER GIRLS”

"How did the company, in just four short years, become such a powerhouse? It’s a combination of youth, vitality and the desire to do things differently. 'We have the most nontraditional approach,' says Douglas. Like eschewing the GDS, which Maggard compares to archaic DOS language. 'We take a creative approach and really listen to our clients—we want to get to know their personal tastes.' It’s a new model: travel consultancy service versus travel agency service. Not a lot of agencies are doing it like us. We are envisioning the future...” Read more

“The impact tourism has had on our environment can’t be ignored. As the global population increases it’s getting worse; however, travel innovators are addressing the issue. In areas where conservation and sustainability is priority, both financial and societal resources are gaining speed, as seen in Africa with wildlife and landscape conservation. Conversely, in Bangladesh and India—areas of dense population and pollution—it’s challenging to even grasp where to start...” Read more

Never Travel Without:
My cashmere wrap and my Bose wireless headphones.

Top Travel Memory:
Enjoying a sundowner with my family as nightfall ascended over the plains of the Serengeti in the Masai Mara. We reminisced about the great migration that we were lucky enough to see in person. Every day in the bush holds new and exciting memories that last a lifetime. A close second was admiring the beauty of Petra in Jordan, the Taj Mahal in India, and the Pyramids in Egypt. All are sights I will never forget!

Best Foodie Find:
Indulging in a delectable eight-course meal at the Beau-Rivage Palace Hotel in Lausanne, Switzerland on Lake Geneva. The exotic assortment of food paired with the intoxicating views of the Swiss Alps was sheer bliss!

On My Bucket List:
Riding Horses through Mongolia during the Golden Eagle Festival; climbing Mt Blanc in France; trekking with the gorillas in Congo or Rwanda, and taking a boat from Argentina to Antarctica to see the polar bears.

That personal touch has brought big dividends. The vast majority of Pirrung’s clients come by word of mouth or referrals — a sure sign of satisfied clients — with recommendations coming through personal and professional networks. While honeymoons are her biggest market, Pirrung also organizes multigenerational and family trips throughout the year.” Read more

LUXURY TRAVEL ADVISOR

“I think I was destined to be a travel advisor before I even knew about the profession,” Pugh tells Luxury Travel Advisor. “Having visited over 60 countries before starting in the industry, I often tell people that I was getting my master’s [degree] in world studies and geography out in the field. Although I don’t have official degrees to frame and put up on my office walls, the six years of nomadic life provided me with invaluable destination knowledge that benefits my clients today...” Read more

Never Travel Without:
A wrap. It’s a versatile piece for warmth, as a cover up for modesty at temples, and also ideal to spruce up a basic outfit. Take a colorful one!

Top Travel Memory:
My first trip overseas was when I was 20 to study in New Zealand. I had never been abroad. This trip changed the course of my life. I arrived, bought a car with two strangers I had just met, and we traveled almost every inch of all three islands of New Zealand (North, South, and Stewart Islands). While meeting other travelers along the way and discovering a new destination, I realized there was so much more to the life I had planned. I came back to graduate college and then moved to Ireland, which prompted the next six years of my life overseas, traveling to more than 60 countries and six continents. My original dream was to be a news anchor for NBC Chicago 5 News where I was interning. Now, I have my actual dream job and I watch the news daily! Win, win!

Best Foodie Find:
There are many markets in London, but Maltby St. Market is high touch and full of locals. It’s an unadvertised market where the locals go to avoid the big crowds. Shhhhh, our little secret!

On My Bucket List:
Svalbard to see the polar bears; Ibiza, where the party is hot, hot, hot, yet evolving into a wonderful family destination, too; Sicily and Puglia are the next “to dos” on my Italian journey; Greenland; and Rwanda—I would love to go and walk amongst the gorillas.
