If a ski holiday is not in the cards this North American ski season – save the steep and deep for a trip down to Argentina next summer. July is peak ski season and Cerro Catedral in Bariloche offers some of the best snow conditions in all of South America.
Named for the gothic cathedral looking granite spires, Cerro Catedral features not only the largest lift-accessed ski area in Argentina and Chile (and 3000 acres of off-piste terrain to explore for the more expert skier), but provides easy access to the city of Bariloche just eight miles away. The Swiss influenced village of Bariloche sits right on Lake Nahuei Huapi – so if a day off the slopes is in order, there is plenty of optionality with abundant après-ski activities (well, eating and drinking mostly!) in this northern Patagonia region.
A convenient flight from Buenos Aires, Bariloche makes a natural addition to a more extensive Argentine itinerary including sophisticated city stops and vineyard visits.
