The air is magical in the mountains and is always filled with excitement and activity as the breathtaking natural backdrop brings out the childlike adventure in all of us.  There is nothing quite like sitting in front of a roaring fire enjoying a hot toddy and people watching during après ski! Here are a few snowy peaks that you may not have thought about.

Steamboat Springs: A fantastic family destination that has expansive terrain for beginners and intermediates. Advanced and expert level skiers aren’t left behind either, as Steamboat is famous for its tree skiing.  They coined the term “Champagne Powder” as the quality of snow there is evident. Just outside of town, sooth your sore muscles at Strawberry Hot Springs or for the more adventurous, enjoy sleigh rides, horseback rides, or snowmobiling to explore the area.

Telluride: Surrounded by a box canyon, there is a sense of seclusion from the rest of the world and a surreal feeling of wonder at the beauty of the area. It’s no surprise that one of the local peaks is used as a symbol of Colorado and can be found on a Coors can.  While there is a greater amount of intermediate and advanced terrain in the back bowls and above tree line, there are still plenty of cruiser runs that can be enjoyed by beginners.  The dichotomy between the  newness of Mountain Village, and the historic town of Telluride provide visitors with very different experiences, both of which easily accessed by the town gondola.

Canyons, UT:  It was just ranked in the top ten ski resorts by Skiing magazine.  Park City is an easy 10 minute drive away, yet Canyons offers a completely different experience. A lot of money has been invested in the area, with restaurants, properties, a base area, and on new lifts (they have the first heated bubble chairlift in North America).  For those looking for something out of the ordinary,  Robert Redford’s Sundance resort is an easy day trip, where visitors can unleash their inner artist in one of the art studios or even try their hand at glass blowing in pristine surroundings.
